Haupt Pharma AG sponsor of
the Digital Art Museum [DAM]
Haupt Pharma AG has been sponsor of the Digital Art Museum [DAM] in Berlin since 1 February 2008.
The [DAM] went online as a virtual museum in 2000 with the objective of becoming a worldwide forum for the history and practice of digital art. The [DAM] has been exhibiting works by leading digital artists since 1956. Alongside an impressive wealth of documentation relating to digital art, the [DAM] also provides extensive background information such as biographies, essays, a bibliography and interviews. The online museum is being expanded on an ongoing basis.
Wolf Lieser, the founder of the [DAM], started to establish the data archive for this particular art form as long ago as 1998. In 2003, the [DAM] opened [DAM]Berlin, its first gallery in the central district of Berlin, where many galleries are housed. Rotating exhibitions place the emphasis on important areas of computer art whilst also featuring young artists.
Haupt Pharma AG is also sponsor of the d.velop digital art award [ddaa], which was launched in 2005 and carries a value of €20,000. The prize is awarded to important digital artists every other year in recognition of lifetime achievement or of a significant body of work. The combination of the award and an exhibition at the Kunsthalle in Bremen accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue remains unique worldwide.
From 2008 onwards, the [ddaa] award ceremony will form part of the programme of events at the ART FORUM BERLIN, an international contemporary arts fair.
The promotion of such a forward looking art form represents a completely new direction for Haupt Pharma AG. The Board takes the view that digital art is the expression of a modern understanding of art and that the innovative ideas involved are a very good match for the company.
